DEFINITION<\/h2>\n

Painful urination (dysuria) is discomfort or burning with urination, usually felt in the tube that carries urine out of your bladder (urethra) or the area surrounding your genitals (perineum).<\/p>\n

CAUSES<\/h2>\n

A number of conditions can cause painful urination. In women, the most common cause of painful urination is a urinary tract infection. In men, urethritis and certain prostate conditions are the most frequent causes of painful urination.<\/p>\n

Common medical conditions and external causes of painful urination include:<\/p>\n

  2. Chlamydia<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  3. Cystitis (bladder infection)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  4. Drugs, such as those used in cancer treatment, that have bladder irritation as a side effect<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  5. Genital herpes<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  6. Gonorrhea<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  7. Having a recent urinary tract procedure performed, including use of urologic instruments for testing or treatment<\/li>\n

  8. Kidney infection<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  9. Kidney stones<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  10. Prostatitis (prostate inflammation)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  11. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  12. Soaps, perfumes and other personal care products<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  13. Urethral stricture (narrowing of the urethra)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  14. Urethritis (infection of the urethra)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  15. Urinary tract infection<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  16. Vaginitis (vaginal infection)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  17. Yeast infection (vaginal)<\/li>\n
